Fueling Station Site Assessments & Remediation

For more than 20 years, Wilcox & Barton, Inc. has responded to oil spill incidents ranging from ruptured residential ASTs to oil tanker rollover accidents. In this particular project, a release of gasoline had migrated into soil and groundwater through preferential pathways created by UST system piping and municipal water and sewer systems. It impacted the subject property, adjoining roadway, and downgradient commercial property. The release was suspected to have also reached a nearby river.

Wilcox & Barton, Inc. became involved in the assessment and remediation of the property during underground storage tank (UST) replacement activities. Gasoline-impacted soil was encountered during the UST removals and was determined to be residual contamination associated with an initial 1991 release and not due to the current UST infrastructure. Wilcox & Barton, Inc. managed the removal and off-property disposal of 612 tons of impacted soil and 3,746 gallons of impacted groundwater.

Wilcox & Barton, Inc. has since assessed the site and confirmed significant groundwater impacts extending from the subject property, across the adjoining roadway, and onto the neighboring commercial property. A Site Investigation was completed followed by routine groundwater monitoring.  All work was performed in accordance with VT DEC requirements and is eligible for reimbursement under the Vermont Petroleum Cleanup Fund.
