Supporting Retail Development for CVS in New England

Wilcox & Barton, Inc. teamed with renowned real estate developer, TM Crowley & Associates, on multiple projects to support retail development for CVS Pharmacy in New England.

In Wayland, MA, Wilcox & Barton, Inc. performed a hazardous materials survey on a historic family restaurant that had been abandoned for years. The 14,000 sf building was structurally unsound (due to a collapsed roof and collapsed kitchen floor) and had been exposed to the elements, while the interior building was coated with mold and fungal growth. Wilcox & Barton surveyed the building donning respirators and flashlights, since electrical service had long been disconnected. Because of the incredible state of decay, the survey had to be performed in two stages. The majority of the first floor and exterior was surveyed, and following abatement of the roof, the basement portion of the survey was completed.

Wilcox & Barton, Inc. also performed soil management services during construction of a Wayland CVS Pharmacy on the site.  A portion of the site was listed as a Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) disposal site, which could have potentially added costs to the project to ensure that contaminated soil and/or groundwater was managed in accordance with the MCP.  Wilcox & Barton, Inc. provided significant savings to the client by determining that the excavation areas were not within the former MCP disposal site boundaries after all.

At a second project location in Plymouth, MA, Wilcox & Barton, Inc. facilitated the construction of an additional CVS Pharmacy by performing asbestos abatement management services prior to the demolition of two buildings, a former restaurant and a family residence. We managed the abatement contractor, led walk through meetings, and provided oversight during the asbestos abatement.
